Soccer stars
Local girls honored with end of season awards

The Macomb Area Conference’s best and brightest girls soccer stars shined all season long, and now they get their just due with the end-of-season awards.
Listed below is a breakdown of the division races and All-League honorees as provided by the coaches.
Red Division
Utica Eisenhower returned to the top of the league with a 9-1-0 mark, winning its third title in four years.
Clinton Township Chippewa Valley placed second at 7-1-2, followed by Utica Ford II (3-4-3), Utica Stevenson (2-4-4), Grosse Pointe South (2-4-4) and Grosse Pointe North (0-9-1).
Chippewa Valley junior Didi Dedvukaj took home Most Valuable Player honors, while Ike coach Mehrdad Nekoogar was voted Coach of the Year.
All-Conference honorees include Aubrey Sudomier, Alyssa Tomassi, Jenika Meyers, Brittany Domin and Monika Lee, Ike; Dedvukaj, Sophie Maccagnone, Ariel Katsimpalis and Kayla Werthmann, Chippewa Valley; Jill Matthew and Heather Dammon, Stevenson; Taylor Niewoit, Leanne Boehm and Allison Viera, Ford II; Chelsea MacGriff and Rae Sklarski, South; Nicolette Capizzo, North.
White Division
Romeo High ended up on top of the division after finishing 9-1-2.
Macomb L’Anse Creuse North took second at 8-3-1, followed by Utica High (7-2-3), Warren Cousino (4-8-0), Sterling Heights High (3-6-3), Fraser High (3-7-2) and St. Clair Shores Lakeview (2-9-1).
Utica senior Becky Berels won the MVP award, while Romeo’s Jerry Motzer was voted Coach of the Year.
All-Conference honorees include Ashley Flinn, Erika Madden, Kelly Petzold, Megan Michaels and Daniella Pittiglio, Romeo; Angela Vultaggio, Stephanie Garland, Marie Peck, Kaila Kukawa, LCN; Berels, Rachel Chaney and Amanda Trigger, Utica; Amanda Ferrick, Natalie Behnke and Amber Boudy, Cousino; Jennifer Freigeh, Alex Kluz and Sam Hilliard, Sterling Heights; Brooke Lawler, Lakeview; Rachel DeLuca and Kalaway Voss, Fraser.
Blue Division
Madison Heights Lamphere and Fair Haven Anchor Bay tied atop the league for the second straight year, finishing this campaign with 10-1-1 records.
Macomb Dakota took third after going 7-5-0, followed by Harrison Township L’Anse Creuse (6-4-2), Port Huron Northern (1-7-4), St. Clair Shores Lake Shore (1-9-2) and Port Huron High (1-9-2).
Lamphere junior Katlyn Krysiak was named the MVP; Lamphere’s Skip Mukhtar Jr. was voted Coach of the Year.
All-Conference honorees include Krysiak, Juanita Manruquez, Marissa Knorp, Brianna Smith and Chelsea Thompson, Lamphere; Angela DiCristofaro, Danielle Bruce, Jenna Taylor and Amanda Shovan, Anchor Bay; Leanne Lupash, Kristina Sobel and Rachel Doptis, Dakota; Kelsey Castiglioni, Emma Gallo and Alyssa Kruszewski, L’Anse Creuse; Ashton Hearn, Georgia Jones and Morgan Smith, Northern; Alyssa Swarthout, Lake Shore; Shelby Conard and Kristen Warsinske, Port Huron.
Gold Division
Warren Woods Tower won the league after going 9-1-2.
Finishing close behind Tower was Warren Mott, which went 9-3-0, followed by Clawson High (7-3-2), Roseville High (4-3-5), St. Clair High (3-4-5), St. Clair Shores South Lake (2-8-2) and Eastpointe East Detroit (0-12-0).
Tower senior Jenna Wonsowicz won MVP honors, while Tower’s Skip Mukhtar Sr. was voted Coach of the Year.
All-Conference honorees include Wonsowicz, Natalie Werner, Stacey Griebe, Brittany Auld and Sarah King, Tower; Katilyn Thomas, Paige Bicoll, Chelsea Meador and Sirena Siryani, Mott; Emily Banules, Alaina Paquette and Emily Hirt, Clawson; Sarah Pitrago, Alexis Snyder and Calree Peplinski, Roseville; Bonita Hazel, Taylor Johnson and Sam Schmitz, St. Clair; Sarah Schnell and Kaitlyn Hart, South Lake; Emily Klinefelt, East Detroit.
Silver Division
Marysville High went a perfect 12-0-0 to capture the division crown.
Marine City was next up in the standings after a 10-2-0 finish, followed by Center Line High (8-4-0), Warren Fitzgerald (6-6-0), Mount Clemens High (4-8-0), Madison Heights Madison (2-10-0) and New Haven High (0-12-0).
Marysville sophomore Ashley Stoia took home the MVP award; Marysville’s Diana Dykstra was voted Coach of the Year.
All-Conference honorees include Stoia, Alison Martin, Haylee Droms, Andrea Curtis and Kristina Iglesias, Marysville; Amanda Brown, Kaitlyn Vigna, Kayla Bossow and Kayla Deciechi, Marine City; Shayna Barclay, Jenna Brown and Lindsey Riddell, Center Line; Stephanie Pilarski, Katlyn Sanders and Angela Burroughs, Fitzgerald.
