MAC’s premier players in softball earn top honors

With another softball season officially in the books, it’s time to congratulate the players and coaches who shined during the regular season and received All-Conference honors in their respective divisions. League, Most Valuable Player and Coach of the Year honors were also awarded.

Names of the honorees were provided in a season-ending report. In some instances, grades were not listed.

Red Division
Fair Haven Anchor Bay captured the Red Division title, posting 9-1. Romeo High (7-3) finished second, followed by Macomb Dakota (6-4), Utica Stevenson and Clinton Township Chippewa Valley, which tied at 4-6, and Utica Eisenhower  (0-10).

Anchor Bay pitcher Olivia Nicholas was voted Most Valuable Player, while Anchor Bay coach Len Perkins was voted Coach of the Year.

All-Conference selections are Nicholas, junior Lauren Podgorski, and sophomores Kasey McKay and Jenna Morisette, Anchor Bay; seniors Kaitlyn Downey and Kayla Provo, and sophomore Erica Manduzzi, Dakota; junior Shanyn McIntyre, and sophomores Rachael Gabrielson and Taylor Waters, Romeo; sophomores Taylor Roberts and Leah Fifer, Chippewa Valley; senior Morgan Gregorich and junior Shelby Spano, Stevenson; and senior Meghan Klakulak, Ike.

White Division
St. Clair High ended up on top of the division after finishing 9-1.

Marine City took second at 8-2, followed by Utica High (7-3), St. Clair Shores Lake Shore (3-7), Grosse Pointe North (2-8) and Utica Henry Ford II (1-9).

Lake Shore’s Erika Lozon won the MVP award, while St. Clair’s Kevin Mahn was voted Coach of the Year.

All-Conference honorees are Amanda Tackaberry, Brianna Schmid, Lindsey Taylor, Jesse Thueme, St. Clair; Tori Wesley, Paige Thayer and Jordan Mathison, Marine City; Katy Studnicki, Kayla DeWitt and Autumn Fettog, Utica; Erika Lozon and Dani Reveley, Lake Shore; Michelle Perna and Amy Zaranek, North; Lindsay Dodson, Ford.

Blue Division
Port Huron Northern and St. Clair Shores Lakeview tied for the MAC Blue title after posting 8-2 records; Macomb L’Anse Creuse North followed at 7-3. Fraser High finished fourth at 4-6, followed by Marysville High (2-8) and Warren Cousino (1-9).

Lakeview senior Melissa Lovati was voted MVP, while Port Huron Northern’s Derek Arena was voted Coach of the Year.

All-Conference selections are senior Sam Lindsey, junior Sarah Carson, sophomore Chelsea Koehn and freshman Sarah Hall, PHN; seniors Lovati and Kelly Martz, junior Ali Lince and sophomore Lauren Berra, Lakeview; senior Chelsea Roggenbuck, and sophomores Jordan Bennett and Ashley Dunford, LCN; senior Katie Kloosterboer and Bryana Opalewski, Fraser; senior Stacie Miller and sophomore Emma Cook, Marysville; and junior Samantha Tremmel, Cousino.

Silver Division
Warren Woods Tower repeated as division champs after going 9-1.

Center Line High was next up in the standings after a 7-3 finish, followed by Sterling Heights High (6-4), Madison Heights Lamphere (4-6), St. Clair Shores South Lake (3-7) and Eastpointe East Detroit (1-9).

Tower’s Shelby Weeks won MVP honors; Lamphere’s Don Mullen was voted Coach of the Year.

All-Conference honorees are Weeks, Katie Welk, Rebecca VanDosen and Hayley Wrinkle, Tower; Gabe Lucido, Alex Dina and Melissa Mowinski, Center Line; Laura Douglas, Allison Erickson and Melissa Wilson, Sterling Heights; Shannon Bush and Kristyn Wrobleski, Lamphere; Leigh Slater and Sebrina Cosky, South Lake; Caitlin Carter, East Detroit.

Gold Division
Harrison Township L’Anse Creuse captured the MAC Blue title after posting a 9-1 record. Roseville High followed at 7-3. Warren Mott finished third at 6-4, followed by Port Huron High (5-5), Grosse Pointe South (3-7) and Warren Lincoln (0-10).

L’Anse Creuse junior Michelle Tononi was voted MVP, while Lancers coach Lisa Downey won the Coach of the Year award.

All-Conference selections are juniors Tononi, Cayla Kordalski, sophomore Katie Hoepner and freshman Monica Hassig, L’Anse Creuse; senior Erica Martin, junior Angela Martin and sophomore Amanda Schankin, Roseville; juniors Catherine Rayos, Sarah Vella and Shelby Boyd, Mott; senior Shelby Baker and sophomore Maegan Murphy, Port Huron; junior Emily Wybo and freshman Gretchen Shirar, South.

Bronze Division
Clawson High went a perfect 8-0 to capture the division crown.

Madison Heights Madison followed at 5-3, followed by Clinton Township Clintondale (4-4), Warren Fitzgerald (3-5) and New Haven High (0-8).

Clawson’s Lisa Shumaker took home the MVP award; Clawson’s Ray McMann was voted Coach of the Year.

All-Conference honorees are Shumaker, Amie Curpuz, Brianna Anglemier and Carolyn Levasseur, Clawson; Erin Sweeney, Cassandra Mingo and Kari Klobucher, Madison; Sabrina Kogelman, Sandra Simpson and Jerilynn Spears, Clintondale; Samantha Fyfe, Samantha Miloser and Arden Sarver, Fitzgerald.
