All-Association team highlights what was a fantastic softball season in 2010

For years the Oakland Activities Association has strived to establish itself as one of the premier softball conferences in the state. While there’s always room for debate, the 2010 season may have signified that goal has been reached.
From top to bottom in all three divisions, teams stacked up against one another as equally as anyone could have hoped. And though there were superior teams when the dust settled, the coaches, from first place to last, agreed that nothing came easy.
With the season now complete, the OAA officially released its All-Association team, highlighting the girls who made 2010 a year to remember.
Red Division
There’s little questioning the cream of the crop in the entire OAA this season, as Troy took its superior regular-season play and parleyed it to a run to the Division 1 semifinals.
The Colts finished the season 11-3 in the Red, taking the division title.
Lake Orion High (9-5) followed Troy in the standings. Clarkston High (9-5) and West Bloomfield High (9-5) tied for third, followed by North Farmington High (8-6), Farmington High (5-9), Birmingham Seaholm (5-9) and Troy Athens (0-14).
All-Association honors went to Jordan Wheatley, Katie Dunn, Kamryn LaCarter, Lynsey Mukomel and Sara Dykowski, Troy; Tessa Tomlin, Jessica Bays, Paige Harvay and Sandra Rippon, Lake Orion; Megan Hastings, Liz Zezula, Bailee Braunreuther and Taylor Hasselbach, Clarkston; Katy Severson, Karleigh Creighton and Makenzie Coulter, North Farmington; Jennifer Topor, Jackie Pyles, Rachel Height-Kaplan and Allyson Kus, West Bloomfield; Sarah Gutknecht and Kaitlin Lock, Farmington; Paige Young and Kelly Buttice, Seaholm; and Melissa Palmer, Athens.
White Division
While Troy ran away with the Red Division, the race in the White was the perfect metaphor to the type of season the OAA enjoyed in 2010. When play concluded, Avondale had its first division crown since 2005, but the title wasn’t determined until the final day of the regular season.
Avondale took the White with a 13-1 record, followed by Rochester Adams (12-2), Rochester High (10-4), Farmington Hills Harrison (9-5), Berkley High (5-9), Royal Oak High (4-10), Hazel Park High (2-12) and Rochester Hills Stoney Creek (2-12).
All-Association recognition went to Katie Moy, Cady Zimmerman, Sami Bolton, Brianna Marzolf and Alyssa Stacherski, Avondale; Jessica Wilson, Breanna Polcyn, Christina Biondo and Emily Bryce, Adams; Martha Troy, Carly Cribbs and Rachel Boreo, Rochester; Bianca Vasovski and Emma Williams, Harrison; Emma Fernandez and Ali Cloutier, Berkley; Taylor Fresch and Samantha Allison, Royal Oak; Stephanie Jentzen, Hazel Park; and Jessica Lie, Stoney Creek.
Blue Division
Birmingham Groves was new to the OAA Blue this season and handled itself just fine.
The Falcons finished 14-0 and won the title, while Bloomfield Hills Andover (10-4), Southfield-Lathrup (10-4), Ferndale High (7-7), Southfield High (7-7), Bloomfield Hills Lahser (5-9), Oak Park High (2-12) and Pontiac High (0-14) followed.
All-Association honors went to Kelly Nowland, Zoe Schmerin, Stephanie Wehbe, Michelle Friedman Mamie Talty, Groves; Jaimie Dallo, Jessica Bryant, Nicah Clark and Whitney Smith, Lathrup; Rachel Gulp, Becca Garfinkel, Kelli McGovern and Michelle Meinert, Andover; Amanda Love and Leslie Summerville, Southfield; Ashley Vozel and Olivia Clauss, Ferndale; Yantiza Delgado, Pontiac; and Melissa Heberlong, Lahser.
