Jeff Dropps was nearly speechless, and in all reality, it’s tough to blame him. The skipper of the Macomb L’Anse Creuse North baseball team entered the 2010 playoffs with a program that had never won as much as a regional game.

Troy, Athens bow out in Divsion1 district

The 2010 baseball season came to a close for Troy and Athens in district play. Athens fell in the D-1 district final in a 6-2 loss to Rochester High. The Red Hawks made it to the final after beating Utica High 15-0 in a semifinal and Troy 5-4 in a June 1 pre-district.

The Macomb L’Anse Creuse North baseball team shook off a few fielding missteps and held on for a 6-5 win against Warren De La Salle in the Division 1 regional final June 12 at Harrison Township L’Anse Creuse.

It was hard not to notice the 2009 Utica Eisenhower baseball team. The Eagles were the ones hitting home runs, averaging more than 10 runs per game, and they had senior Division 1 college prospects Griffin Jones on the pitching mound.
